Ceramic Cabochon Series

Sort by:

The ceramic cabochons are colorful, whimsical and festive in appeal. I make them from a hand rolled slab of clay, cutting the shapes with tiny “cookie cutters” I have fabricated from metal. These tiny pieces are then hand painted with three layers of each color using a very tiny paintbrush to produce the fine lines of pattern, giving a slight relief to the surface, then painted with multiple layers of a clear glaze. Fired in the kiln two-three times, the finished product is often mistaken for glass as it has a high gloss finish.  Once the ceramic process is complete, the pieces move to the metalsmithing bench. They are set into my hand fabricated fine and sterling silver bezels and composed into bracelets, earrings, necklaces and brooches.
